Decided to share the first half of my prologue for the new book. I believe it is going to be called Bound Forever and I am hoping to have it finished by the end of summer!!
Prologue
We
thought we knew everything. We thought we had it all figured out. We thought
wrong.
We
lived in an endless chasm of violence, war and the death that followed. None of
us were safe and as we destroyed ourselves, the world that we knew and had
grown accustomed to, slowly melted away. Those of us born after The Great
Separation only knew stories of what once was.
In
2043, World War III broke out leaving Earth’s populous as a whole, broken and
in constant fear. There was endless talk of our end coming for the second time
in a century and in a big way, this was the end. Not the end of life, but the
end of the free world and the end of what we knew.
Many
of the world’s governments were left in shambles, while others dissipated
completely. All of the countries of Europe and Asia were massacred in the war.
The land was left barren, uncharted and completely toxic. Africa was wiped out
by a plague only two years prior to the war.
In
2047, the war was deemed over when The Great Separation took place. All of the
countries that were left at the end of the war, came together to separate their
people. It was the last time anyone would know what was happening outside of
their own country. It was the last time the world leaders would ever speak. The
idea behind this being that war would never become an issue again if countries
couldn’t get involved with each other.
Those
in power put more laws, regulations and punishments in place to keep the people
under control. They used fear against us. Families were separated indefinitely
and The World Separation Act was put in place. The country you were in when the
act was instated was the country you were now a part of. We were their
property. We were not allowed to leave and we were not allowed to contact those
outside of our own borders.
The
United States was now known as just America because the states were said to
cause too much internal conflict. Of the surviving countries, America was the
most drastically changed and the most negatively affected. It was the land of
the free but now was the home of the broken and divided. The freedoms that our grandparents
fought for were now only a part of history. The government of democracy was
lost with the war and a new form of communistic socialism was born.
Our
control came from a powerful group of wealthy men. They had been influential
before the war and the people had trusted them to bring America up from the
ashes and back to a powerful and wealthy state. We the people trusted the wrong
power. They stripped America of everything that made the country free.
